I was taking a look at it with an American Flyer whiz and he thought it was probably 1940-41, as the trains are three-rail Flyer, and most of the accessories are late pre-war vintage. If so, these kids would not see any new trains in the stores for the next five or six years.

You're right about the Flyer. I used to own the 2-rail version of those coaches, so I should have noticed.

No holiday village this year, but I did manage to throw a loop of track under the Christmas tree for the kids to play with. A Lionel 2018 from 1956, same vintage as me!
Sixty years old...easily do another sixty (the Lionel that is)...
