Last trip through York, I visited Mike Rosenberg's booth where I was able to acquire a few tinplate toy railroad people. Based on a few on-line sources, I believe these were made by Barclay, hollow-cast in the style of toy soldiers of the era:
These are in "as found" condition, pretty remarkable given their 70+ year age. I've no plans to change that.
I believe the guy in the middle of the lower image is intended to be a gateman. Both Lionel (presumably Barclay) and American Flyer made gateman that featured figures with an artificial leg. I have often wondered if this indicative of the hiring practices of the railroads, whereby injured employees and disabled veterans were hired to perform such "low impact" jobs along the right-of-way.

One of Arttista's iconic figures, the infamous "running man":
He's the ultimate stop-action figure for the layout, a world where typically only the trains are moving.
Block-painted using Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, a wash with diluted black ink applied, than an overspray of Tamiya clear matte lacquer.

Figures painted for the 2023 Christmas display:
All are Bachmann Plasticville, except the one dude on the end glued on a piece of acetate.

Looks like a town of welcoming and friendly citizens…what trains are you going to run under the tree this year?…
(By the way…I’ll take my club sandwich in the diner…toasted wheat with extra bacon)…
Howard…

Thanks Howard. I picked up an MTH Christmas trolley that will work nicely...I'll take some pics and post them. I have a couple other old LIonels found recently and returned to service...they may show up here as well.

A few railfans for the layout:
All Arttista, I think the guy on the right was sold as a wedding photographer; I figured with a bit of casual clothes, he could join the rest of them trespassing in the ROW.
