The 1655 is paired with a 6654W whistling tender which is probably the main reason it doesn't pull more then three or four cars...the tender is a brick on wheels. Our prewar 1684 with a 2689T non-whistling tender will easily pull a half-dozen tinplate cars. They are both fun little locomotives.

An upgraded version of the Lionel 6257 SP-style caboose:

Karl Burkhardt, a Lionel buff who lived in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, made a hobby of taking low-end versions of the SP-style caboose and upgrading them to include the features found on the 6457. He wood add interior lights, window glazing, a smoke stack, tool boxes on the underside. I bought this one at York, a few miles up the road from Gettysburg. While I don't know the real story of the piece, I like to think it was one of Karl's.

I see, Paul. Actually I like his window material - looks like dirty windows. Did he attach a third-rail pickup?

Yup, they added a third-rail pick-up, looks like by replacing one of the trucks. Nicely riveted in...almost looks original.

In one of the old TM videos there was a guy (Karl Burkhardt) interviewed who made a hobby of embellishing low-end Lionel cabooses to include lighting, chimneys and toolboxes. The guy lived in Gettysburg, PA, not too far up the road from me. I often wonder if this might be one of his creations.

Here's the dual-motored Williams GG-1 (post-war Lionel reproduction) getting a spin on the layout. A great runner, Williams made some nice stuff. The line was purchased by Bachmann a few years ago.

This one is in Williams' rendition of Brunswick Green. I've seen a real GG1 in Brunswick Green, and the prototypical color is nearly black...very dark.
