Haven't posted anything in awhile. The Fall York badge arrived yesterday...started looking through the collection to see what if any gaps need to be filled. Snapped a few pic's while I was down there:

Well, it's almost mid-September and if we're going to have the layout cleaned up for the holidays it's time to get cracking!!! Looks a bit like an accessory storage lot...

Not sure where to start...a little bit of everything in here.

You could send some to me for safekeeping. :-)

Just kidding. Too much stuff in storage now.

I'm with you there...looking around I'm thinking it's time to cull the collection a bit. Lots of variations on many pieces, and numerous duplicates as well. I need to update the inventory list I started so I can stay on top of what's there.

The 1677/1678/1679/1680/1682 series of freight cars originated with the Ives Company, which was taken over by Lionel and American Flyer in the early 1930's. Lionel updated these cars with their trucks and couplers, added their name to the lithography, and began selling them with their less expensive sets. These sets, along with Ives track, became the O-27 line for Lionel.

When Lionel incorporated operating couplers the numbering changed. The 1682 caboose became the 2682, and so forth. This series of cars is very common and inexpensive...I picked up this one recently from eBay for less than ten dollars.

Note:: If you find a 1678 stock car grab it...those are extremely rare and go for big bucks!!!

Still charming, even with the "wrong" number and couplers. :-)

Playing around with the Nikon tonight...grabbed a shot of the 258 charging past with a string of four-wheel freights:

A bit of cobweb between the flags, lol. Love to take pictures of tinplate trains from a low angle...somehow they look just slightly less toy-like...maybe...

Thanks for the photo - pretty cool. And you're right, they look a lot more impressive from a low angle. - Paul

Despite temps in the upper 60's, there was a freak snowfall on the layout tonight. Here the last local of the night rumbles into the Lionel 136 station on Christmas Eve:

Hope everyone has a great Christmas...
