Lionel Prewar-O Photo Gallery
Re: Lionel Prewar-O Photo Gallery
Stopped by a local show today, mostly to support the organizers. Usually its predominantly HO stuff with a bit of modern and postwar O-gauge. Found this late Lionel 807 on a guy's table for a few bucks:
Black journals, blackened wheel-set, stamped silver lettering and just a single latch-coupler. Dating to the 1939-42 time-frame, soon after Lionel would go to war and not manufacture any trains for a few years.

Got the 1681 down off the shelf to see if it still runs...like a clock!
I need to clean those rust-spots off the pilot wheels.
Pretty quiet around here...

An early Lionel 804 recovered at York this week:
I've been looking for a nice example for quite awhile...this should clean up nicely.

Re: Lionel Prewar-O Photo Gallery
Thought I'd repost this...lost all of the others in the Photobucket debacle. Lionel 258 runs south on the mainline after exiting the Lionel 305 Hellgate:
The layout's been offline for awhile...we had a minor flood in the basement which destroyed a couple of the power-bricks. Need to run down some replacements. In the meantime here's one from the archives.

I'd been looking for a nice set of olive 600-series passenger cars to go with the MTH/Lionel Corp 254E from a few years ago...finally hit pay-dirt with this nicely restored set:
Paint matches pretty well.

Re: Lionel Prewar-O Photo Gallery
Don't think I posted this before...a Lionel 804 from the late-1920's. I found this one with various parts missing and its handrails soldered to the tank-sides. A few bucks, a hot soldering iron and some elbow grease got it back in order. Stripped the tank and repainted it dark green and applied "Cities Service" decals, sort of a homage to the postwar two-dome version. Fun little project:
A bit of an abomination for the purist, but this was headed to the bin if we hadn't pulled it back from the brink.

A Lionel 2235T diecast tender purchased at the York TCA meet:
I wanted a 2224T tender, but saw this for a good price. Just need to swap the tender drawbar.

Nice color green!
Re: Lionel Prewar-O Photo Gallery
A nice Lionel 831 found at a local jumble sale this AM:
An early example, sans journals, dark green, nickel trim. Twenty years ago this sells for $25-$30...today $5.
