Rossano aka Bud Care
Christmas Train Platform (full view) - Early 1950s - Kodachrome
Lionel train setup (platform) with native American village. To the left is an operating cattle car and corral, a new item from Lionel in the early '50s. (Orange car behind the engine). Behind it are classic metal Lionel cars from the 1940s. Note the track switch right behind the fence.

There is an operating signal flagman in the lower right. A giant, way out of scale. (Scale was not an issue here.)

The figures were hand-painted by my mother, one of her hobbies. There are a few lead figures (small) among them. I probably made the teepees.

This was pre-Plasticville, though the covered wagon is obviously plastic. The barn towards the back is still cardboard. From a Kodachrome slide by my dad, Ross J. Care. MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE BIGGEST SIZES https://www.flickr.com/photos/39527581@ ... 1/sizes/l/

Thank you for posting this picture...such memories!...what an image from your childhood...something to be treasured...you were a fortunate young man to have a father in your life...especially one who could build things, would spend time with you and liked trains...but I digress...

Speaking of memories...that classic oval with a passing track...that was the only layout I could assemble with my American Flyer trains, a limited amount of track and two switches...sadly I have no photos...

Howard...

PS...l've never seen that particular fence around the layout perimeter before...it would be a sought after item today...and what about that crumbled and earth colored brown paper tunnel and wrap around the tree...boy, that really is a classic...

I agree...that is one of the nicest shots of a vintage Christmas "garden" I've ever seen. One can smell the ozone and pine needles just looking at it. Made my day!
