I saw a pic of a filling station made by the Distler company of Germany...not sure if this is a pre- or postwar item, but it looked strikingly similar to many of the early stations seen around here in Maryland. Thought I'd make a faux-tinplate version (original at the top, paper version beneath):
I made the graphics using some digital brick-paper I have, some window graphics taken from Ed Berg's Marx
West Side Warehouse scans, and a roof made from textures available on Paul Race's
Tribute to Tinplate site. Some computer paper, matt board, a few bits of basswood, and a masonite base is 99% of the materials. I found a decent pre-painted casting of a gas pump online (got lazy and didn't make the effort to create a paper version). I'm going to add a company sign once I find the box of decals and stickers I have here somewhere.
