Post subject:  Getting Trains Outside the US and Europe

This is a question I get ever so often, from people who are hoping I can arrange for shipment of trains to places as diverse as Angola, Bangalore, Dubai, Beruit, Warsaw, Belgrade, and Argentina. From 2005 to about 2007, I had a trading partner who would ship trains ANYWHERE, providing he got the cash up front first. That way if the customs agent seized the train for his own kids or assigned an import duty twice what the train was worth, or if the local delivery clerk stole it to sell on the black market, the vendor was "covered." And the would-be customers knew the risks up front. But by 2008, the vendor realized that only about one in three trains he sent out of the US and Canada were getting to their would-be purchaser. To be fair to the folks who would have gladly been his customers, he decided to stop most international shipments. I have noticed that several other vendors have followed suit. So when folks from across the ocean ask me if I can get a train to them, i have to decline.

We're a group of French & Lebanese partners; five years ago we opened a multi-brand store for kids & tweens in Beirut, Lebanon; We like your trains and would be interested in selling them or at least acquiring one for our Christmas decorations

Can you please tell if this is doable and how to proceed?

--------Our Response----------------------

Thank you for getting in touch. Unfortunately, none of my vendors or advertisers sell trains outside of the US and Canada. I have had requests from every continent, and I've investigated this question several times.

If you can't find what you need in Lebanon, perhaps you can get a friend who lives in Europe or North America to buy them and send them directly to you.

You mentioned having some French nationals involved. Bachmann Trains has a large presence in the UK and they sell many brands. Perhaps someone you know in Europe could order a train from them for you.

I know this is a poor suggestion, and wish I could give you more useful advice.

I can answer questions about trains all day long. I just can't get them to you.

My apologies - Paul
