They look like American Flyer sets of the era. Clockwork trains and toys were popular during the years when electricity wasn't available to everyone, and were also priced well below the electric sets. European manufacturers continued manufacturing clockwork trains much longer than most of the American companies. In the U. S., I believe Marx was the last of the major manufacturers that offered a mechanical set. I know I received one in the early 1960s.
