Local Ad 1941

Post by winced36 »

This advert appeared in the local Baltimore paper, probably the Sun, on Sunday, December 7, 1941:

Despite Christmas being just a couple of weeks away, folks probably weren't thinking much about toy trains that evening.

As brought to you by The Hecht Company at Baltimore and Pine:

Department stores like this must have been a grand place.

We had one in Downtown Dayton - "Rikes." Seven stories, and the top floor was only used at Christmas, when they would get out the animated elves, carolers, and animals and set up a large winding "North Pole" scene that ended, of course with Santa's lap. Plus animated Christmas scenes in every window facing the sidewalk. Some of the scenes are still being set up, in little booths with plexiglass fronts, in the lobby of the concert hall that eventually took its place.
