Foam scenery

Okay, I think that'll do it for now. I'm not totally happy with it, but I wanted something toy-like and I think it turned out acceptable:

As one of the guys pointed out on another forum, the strata of the rock is kinda running in conflicting directions, and the top looks a bit weird, but it's good enough for now. Won't be too big a deal to pull the top off and redo it, or add foliage, and the front is detachable so I can replace that at some point without having to tear stuff up.

Moving on to new projects.

I think it looks great. Not to mention there are areas in the country where the strata ARE all mixed up like that - this from a fellow who took geology in college because it was supposed to be easier than biology. Of course back then we still thought the earth was flat.

i agree with paulrace...looks great and captures the look of a train layout mountain/tunnel perfectly...just remember...it's your layout...so, have fun...don't loose sleep over the feedback on that OTHER forum...

...they're all good folks...but some are just so focused on counting rivets and pure scale details...model railroading is a big hobby...with room for all...

Thanks Paul & Howard...no worries...I'm good with it and moving on. The primary goal was that a kid could look in the hole and see a train coming...mission accomplished. On to the next...

Nice to know I'm not totally off the mark. Two of my college room-mates were geology majors...can't tell you the number of weekends I spent stumbling around former strip-mines in Western Maryland picking up rock samples, lol...learned a lot from those guys. One went on to start a printing business, the other a cartographer for the Army.
